You’ve heard the old adage about advertising, right? The “Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted, I just don’t know which half” quote is often attributed to Henry Ford, Lord Lever and John Wannamaker, among others. They probably all said it at one time or another. I’m reminded of it when a prospective client tries to quantify how effective a content marketing strategy will be for their organisation. Last night I heard about an exciting initiative to prove just how powerful it can be. The Great Content Marketing Experiment is running on 19 May. I can’t wait.

For a variety of reasons, I’m reluctant to share much personal information about myself on the internet. I know it’s not a popular view but I’m sticking to my guns on this one.

If you’re a small business or sole trader, a recent report says social media marketing is delivering substantial benefit impacting the profitability of the company. As a social media practitioner, I wasn’t surprised. (NOTE: I did not say I was a social media “expert”) What did surprise me was the significant increase in positive results in the past year.

As a content marketing practitioner and enthusiast, I promoted the practice of unlocking the content on your website - making it available to anyone that wants to read it. The idea behind this is you will get more benefit by freely sharing your knowledge than protecting it and charging for the privilege of your expertise.
